Including Zhaga Requirements in Tenders

This section provides standardised text to include in tenders and other procurement documentation for those looking to enhance their public lighting deployments with the inclusion of Zhaga-based technology in outdoor luminaires and devices connected to them.

Zhaga’s promise of interoperability means that different manufacturers can produce different parts of a luminaire’s ecosystem and they will work together. Zhaga-D4i certification and logo will provide specifiers with confidence and value in their procurement process. A publicly accessible database of Zhaga-certified products can be found here.

Zhaga - Introductory Text

Zhaga is a global association of lighting companies that is standardizing interfaces of components of LED luminaires, including LED light engines, LED modules, LED arrays, holders, electronic control gear (LED drivers) and connectivity fit systems. This helps to streamline the LED lighting supply chain, and to simplify LED luminaire design and manufacturing. Zhaga continues to develop specifications based on the inter-related themes of interoperable components, smart and connected lighting, and serviceable luminaires.

Standards and Specfication Section

In the standards and specifications section of a tender, the specifier should list the Zhaga Specification as follows:
Zhaga Book 18 – Smart Interface Between Outdoor Luminaires and Sensor / Communication Modules – Zhaga Consortium

D4i - intro text

D4i logo BLACK

D4i brings standardization to the intra-luminaire DALI and extends the existing DALI-2 program by adding a specific set of new features.
By specifying power-supply requirements and smart-data capabilities, D4i enables intelligent, connected, future-proofed LED luminaires. For more information on the D4i specification and certification see https://www.dali-alliance.org/d4i/.

The interoperability promise is based on products on both sides of the Zhaga-D4i interface being certified; both luminaires and sensor and/ or communication modules need to be Zhaga-D4i certified.

Book 18 – tender texts for luminaires

Zhaga-D4i luminaires can be configured with one or two receptacles. When requesting two receptacles, luminaires can be configured with either two Zhaga receptacles or one Zhaga and one ANSI C136.41 receptacle.

Zhaga-D4i certified luminaires can be found on the public Zhaga product database here.
Specifiers should choose from the following model text covering whichever configuration approach is desired:

Zhaga D4i black The luminaire(s) shall be equipped with one receptacle to hold a sensor and/or communication module. The receptacle shall be positioned

on the luminaire facing upwards. The luminaire(s) shall be Zhaga-D4i certified* and is/are allowed to bear the Zhaga-D4i logo.

*The

*specifier may wish to allow suppliers some flexibility in securing certification (e.g., by allowing them to complete Zhaga D4i certification by the time of product delivery). This will help accommodate the rapid pace of new luminaire development while still protecting the specifier.
